Warburton is a mountain hamlet that retains the style and pace
of a past age. A 75 kilometre drive east from the centre of the city,
Melbourne’s muddy Yarra is here a swift, clear trout stream,
flowing through a dramatic alpine valley. The river is flanked
by well maintained paths in a parklike setting.

Warburton enjoyed a brief flush of prosperity in the early
gold rushes of the nineteenth century, but thereafter the
town’s economy was supported by logging and tourism.

Activities available include:

horse riding
hang gliding
mountain biking
kayaking on the Yarra
forest walks, gentle or demanding
